Welcome to WECA

An event titled Step Up for Kids will be held September 16, 2008 on the steps of state capital buildings across the nation.  The spirit of the event, which will feature speakers and performances by children, is to educate and inform candidates, the media and citizens in our state about children’s issues. More than 30 organizations across the state of Wyoming are working to sponsor events not only at the Capital in Cheyenne but also at courthouses in ten counties. Events in local communities will not only raise awareness but will encourage people to register and vote. Some of the topics to be addressed at the events include poverty, health care, juvenile incarceration, children in out of home placements, early care and education, child abuse, and afterschool programs.

Absolutely NO campaigning by political candidates will be allowed at the events. To help build our power to improve opportunities for all children, we will tell nonvoting citizens how they can participate and encourage them to register to vote while at their courthouse.

As of this date we have commitments from the following organization to endorse these events:

Wyoming Children's Action Alliance, Equality State Policy Center, Casey Family Programs, Children and Nutrition Services, Wyoming Afterschool Alliance, Equality Initiatives, Parent Information Center, Parent Education Network, Head Start Collaboration Office, Coalition for Wyoming Children, Wyoming Association of Churches, Prevent Child Abuse Wyoming, Lights on in Lander, Wyoming Safe Kids, Wyoming Education Association, UPLIFT, Wyoming Early Childhood Association, Citizen Review Panel, Wyoming AFL/CIO, Laramie Early Childhood Association, Wyoming Children’s Access Network, Wyoming Head Start Association, Climb Wyoming, Wyoming Citizens Review Panel, Wyoming Child Major Injury and Fatality Review Team, Serve Wyoming, Sublette Child Care Coalition, Wyoming Kinship Advocacy, Child Development Services of Wyoming, Association of Student Social Workers. the Kinskey Family Foundation, Wyoming Association of Elementary School Principals, and Child Development Services of Wyoming.

Events will be held in Albany, Fremont, Johnson, Laramie, Natrona, Park, Sheridan, Sublette, Sweetwater, Teton and Weston Counties. For more information on the event visit: www.everychildmatter.org/wyoming.
